The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) unites the Medical Faculty of the Georg-August University and the University Hospital in an integration model. With around 9,700 employees, the UMG and its subsidiaries are one of the largest employers in the region. Our clinics and institutes stand for high-quality patient care, excellent research, modern teaching and transfer of innovative technology.
Göttingen as a city of science is located in the center of Germany and the University Medical Center Göttingen is integrated into an attractive network of university and non-university scientific institutions.
The Klinik für Geriatrie of the University Medical Center Göttingen is looking for a new position to 01.12.2026
Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d)
full time, with 38,5 hours per week, fixed-term for 12 months
Remuneration according to TV-L
The Department of Geriatrics at the University Medical Center Göttingen is seeking a highly motivated early-career postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary Heart & Brain research program.
Our research focuses on ageing-related interactions between cardiovascular disease, brain health, delirium, cognitive decline and neurodegeneration. We combine deeply phenotyped clinical cohorts with molecular biomarkers, omics approaches and experimental models.
The position is embedded in several ongoing translational research projects, including PAWEL/Bio-PAWEL, FINDERI, PRECOVERY and the DFG Research Training Group 2824 “Heart & Brain”, and offers the opportunity to work with established clinical cohorts, biosamples and molecular datasets.
Your tasks
Your tasks
- Bioinformatic and statistical analysis of molecular and omics datasets, including, for example, DNA methylation and miRNA data
- Integration of molecular data with clinical, biomarker and longitudinal outcome data
- Quality control, processing, analysis and reproducible documentation of both molecular and clinical datasets
- Development and application of reproducible analysis workflows, primarily using R and/or Python
- Functional annotation and pathway/network analyses and, where appropriate, integration of different molecular data layers
- Contribution to experimental validation, including cell culture and molecular biology approaches
- Scientific supervision and co-supervision of doctoral researchers, particularly within the DFG Research Training Group “Heart & Brain”
- Preparation of scientific manuscripts, presentations and contributions to grant applications
- Close collaboration with clinical researchers, molecular scientists, bioinformaticians and partner groups across the Göttingen Campus
Your qualifications
Your qualifications
- PhD in bioinformatics, biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, biomedical sciences or a related discipline
- Strong interest in translational research at the interface of clinical cohorts, molecular biomarkers and data science
- Experience in the analysis of complex molecular or omics datasets
- Proficiency in R and/or Python and sound knowledge of statistical data analysis
- Experience with molecular biology and cell culture
- Experience working in an S1 laboratory
- Qualification or eligibility to act as a Biological Safety Officer (BBS) and/or project leader under German genetic engineering regulations would be an advantage, but is not mandatory
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to an interdisciplinary research team
- Excellent written and spoken English
We offer
We offer
- The position provides the opportunity to work on clearly defined projects using existing, well-characterized cohorts and molecular datasets, with a strong perspective towards scientific publications within the funding period
- You will join a collaborative translational research environment linking geriatrics, cardiovascular medicine, neuroscience, biomarker research and bioinformatics within the Heart & Brain research network at the Göttingen Campus
- The position is particularly suited for an early postdoctoral researcher who wishes to strengthen their profile in translational biomarker research, computational analysis and the integration of experimental and clinical science
Applications should include a short cover letter outlining your relevant methodological experience and research interests, a curriculum vitae including publications, relevant certificates, and contact details of two referees.
