PhD Position in Translational Cardiovascular Large-Animal Research (f/m/d)

part time, 25 hours per week, expected 31.07.2030

The Department of Cardiology and Pneumology provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for acute and chronic diseases of the cardiovascular system, as well as of the lungs and respiratory tract, in both outpatient and inpatient settings. In addition to four general wards, the department includes a Chest Pain Unit and an intensive care unit.
Our research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases, with particular emphasis on the role of ion channels in cardiac and vascular cells. We combine state-of-the-art cellular electrophysiology techniques (patch clamp, voltage clamp) with molecular biological and physiological approaches to investigate the electrical properties of cardiac and vascular cells and to develop novel therapeutic strategies.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our translational cardiovascular research program. The project focuses on porcine large-animal models of cardiac disease and aims to advance clinically relevant approaches in cardiovascular research.

Your tasks

contributing to translational cardiovascular research projects using established porcine large-animal models of cardiac disease
learning and progressively performing cardiovascular ultrasound examinations and interventional procedures under general anesthesia
supporting the preparation, coordination and documentation of large-animal procedures in close collaboration with veterinary, scientific and technical staff
taking responsibility for peri-procedural monitoring and post-interventional care of animals in accordance with animal welfare regulations and project-specific protocols
analyzing, presenting and communicating research findings at national and international scientific meetings and contributing to scientific publications

Your qualifications

you hold a degree in veterinary medicine or a comparable qualification in a relevant life science discipline
you have a strong interest in translational cardiovascular research and large-animal models and are motivated to learn cardiovascular procedures under general anesthesia and progressively develop the skills required for independent experimental work
experience in animal handling, anesthesia, peri-operative care or experimental procedures is desirable but not mandatory
you are reliable, well organized and committed to high standards of animal welfare, scientific quality and documentation
you enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team and communicate openly and constructively with colleagues from different professional backgrounds
good English language skills are expected. German language skills are considered an advantage
